It was a fun-filled night Friday in Wetumpka for the celebration of Tim Burton week in honor of the director’s birthday. From 4 to 8 p.m. area residents were dressed as their favorite Tim Burton character. Wetumpka High School students and Wetumpka Depot Players joined volunteers who posed for photos throughout the night.

If you couldn’t find them walking around outside, some businesses were open and attendees were able to walk in and capture memories of a lifetime. One girl in particular, Halle Phelps, was dressed as the character in Alice in Wonderland, and made her entire costume from scratch in less than a week. She is a transfer student from Colorado and is part of the Wetumpka High Theatre Guild.

If you were into trivia, Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe had Tim Burton Trivia Night from 5-7 p.m. and participants could win a prize. The owners of Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe are Lucky, Kate, Jeremy, and April. Lucky was dressed up as Joker, and was in charge of the Trivia Night questions.

Friday night was also a Cheshire Cat Scavenger Hunt that started at 4pm. All over Wetumpka, clues were posted on doors in the downtown area and participants had to find all clues and bring them the cat in order to win a prize valued at $200.

The prize that was donated by Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe consisted of a private venue for two couples (four people) after hours that was claimable at the store. Another fun day event that started on Friday was the window decoration contest. A walk through town allowed participants to check out all of the amazing designs and vote on their favorite. The winning business will receive a special prize. Voting started on 8/27 and it will end on Sunday at 5 p.m.. If you want to vote, please go to the Main Street Wetumpka page on Facebook to help out your favorite.

From 6 to 10 p.m. the Vault Variety Shop hosted a costume party (costumes were not required) in their courtyard. They also had a band from Gulf Shores, AL called the “Gypsy Rhythm Section.”

The musicians played a little bit of everything in the courtyard. People we’re able to donate to the band for their travel expenses to make the trip to The Vault Variety Shop.

Sharon Brooks the owner of Vault Variety Shop, was dressed as Sally from “Nightmare before Christmas.” She was raffling off tickets for $1 to win one of three gift baskets from the B&B Health Boutique. All donations from the raffles will go to B&B Health Boutique which is a non-profit to help with prosthetics for Breast Cancer recipients.

If attendees were interested in a little art fun, from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunshine and Pixie Dust was doing a Big Fish themed bottle cap art class at the Hampton Inn.

Throughout the week numerous establishments offered special food and drink menu items as well. Check out the Coosa Cleaver, Grumpy Dog, The Copper House Deli, Coosa River Craft House, Wetumpka Nutrition and Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe to see what special offerings they have for this special week only. Items offered range from “Big Fish Sandwich”, “Zero Dog”, “Batman Cookies”, “Carl The Giant Beer”, “Beetlejuice cocktail” and much more!
