What do you get when you combine excellent cheese, wine, jazz and $5 mimosas? Awesomeness, to put it plainly.
Saturday that is what was on the menu at Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe in historic downtown Wetumpka. It provided an opportunity for the regulars to have a pleasant surprise, and newcomers to get a good look at the shoppe which now resides in the former Fain Theatre.
Thanks to the hard work and planning of Wetumpka officials and business owners, the city is having a Golden Age with incredible tourism, thriving businesses, full parking lots and a vitality not seen in many years. Oh, and this “little” show called HGTV put them on the map with a “Hometown Takeover.” Not the national map, but the international map. Since the shows aired earlier this year, the word “incredible” is used a lot to describe the new life downtown. But it far surpasses that.
Among the many thriving businesses downtown is Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe. There were followers of the business long before the doors officially opened, and they lived through the many adventures of the owners as they acquired the old Fain Theatre, and have worked so hard to set a mood. A “Cheesy” mood, if you will.
With a generous nod to the more than 80 years of history tied to the theatre, visitors are greeted with movie posters and a lot of nostalgia. And, of course, some of the most excellent cheese and wine selections to be found in this area.
“The Wetumpka community has really been awesome, and so supportive,” Co-owner Kate Lawrence said in a recent article in the EAN. “We’re happy to be here, and we couldn’t think of anywhere else we’d rather be.”
Provision has a wide variety of cheese, deli meats, and condiments of all kinds.
“We’re so, so excited to be a part of a growing downtown community – and we hope to be here for years to come,” Lawrence said. A growing number of customers, and rave reviews, are a great sign that will happen.
