Kevin McNatt announces candidacy for Autauga County Sheriff

From: Committee to Elect Kevin McNatt

Autauga County, AL

Kevin McNatt, a veteran Alabama law enforcement officer with more than 20 years of service, has announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Autauga County.

McNatt began his law enforcement career in 2001 with the Autaugaville Police Department, where he served as the first full-time School Resource Officer at Autaugaville School. He later joined the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, serving as a Patrol Deputy, Narcotics Sergeant, member of Special Operations, and Night Shift Patrol Lieutenant. He also led the county’s “Run, Hide, Fight” active-shooter training initiative for schools, churches, businesses, and community groups.

McNatt was later recruited to the Alabama Department of Corrections’ Law Enforcement Services Division, where he investigated homicides, drug trafficking, serious assaults, fraud, public corruption, and complex financial crimes. He was promoted to Senior Agent and selected to serve on a federal task force with the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI, focusing on public corruption and civil rights investigations. He later served as Statewide Training Coordinator and as an adjunct instructor for three regional police academies. He currently serves as Supervisory Agent for the Central Region of Alabama.

McNatt holds a Master of Science in Justice Administration from Faulkner University, where he earned a 3.9 GPA, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University, where he earned a 3.68 GPA. He has also completed advanced law enforcement training beyond minimum state requirements, including instructor certifications in firearms, active-shooter response, and use of force.

McNatt said his campaign is focused on proactive policing, constitutional leadership, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and stronger community partnerships. He said his vision for the Sheriff’s Office includes increasing visible patrols, improving communication with citizens, strengthening cooperation with local public safety partners, and expanding community education and involvement.

McNatt also said support for the Second Amendment is a core part of his platform. He has publicly described himself as a strong constitutionalist and firm supporter of the right to keep and bear arms. He is a member of the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America, holds a Federal Firearms License, and is a certified Firearms Instructor and Range Safety Officer. He said he believes law-abiding citizens have the right to defend themselves and their families, and that law enforcement must protect those rights while remaining tough on criminals.

“Autauga County deserves a Sheriff’s Office that is visible, proactive, professional, and accountable to the people,” McNatt said. “I believe deputies should be out in the community, building trust, deterring crime, and responding when citizens need them most. I also believe constitutional rights must be protected, taxpayer dollars must be respected, and the people should always have access to their Sheriff.”

McNatt said he is seeking the office because he believes Autauga County deserves experienced leadership, principled decision-making, and a Sheriff’s Office that works hand-in-hand with the people it serves.
