The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has officially notified CrimeStoppers that wanted fugitive Richard Surles is in Police custody. He is no longer wanted by Law Enforcement.

An anonymous tip, through CrimeStoppers, led Montgomery Police to the location of Richard Surles. Surles was taken into custody without incident by the Montgomery Police Department shortly after receiving the tip on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at approximately 12:00 noon.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Surles approached the victim, produced a 9mm handgun, demanded money and a cell phone.  A scuffle ensued and Surles fired one shot at the victim causing a minor injury. At a later date, Surles approached the victim again in an attempt to intimidate him. After the second encounter, Surles shot at the victim multiple times.

Richard Surles was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where a hold was placed on him for Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Surles was charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery 1st degree.

A reward is being offered to the tipster through CrimeStoppers.
