For over 30 years, the River Region Pregnancy Center has helped serve Prattville and surrounding communities, providing lab-quality pregnancy tests, pregnancy consultation, and limited ultrasounds.

The non-profit organization has made a name for themselves with their excellent non-judgmental, supportive, and compassionate environment. That type of service benefitted RRPC during 2020 and early 2021, as the organization found a way to adapt and thrive during difficult times.

“We were extremely lucky to have the type of success that we had over the past year. We were deemed essential from the very beginning, so we never closed our doors,” said River Region Pregnancy Center Executive Director, Carla Wilemon.

One of their more popular services, the “Earn While You Learn” program, was held virtually over the past 12 months. The classes teach a myriad of lessons, from life skills to money management.

Wilemon explained that the center is ready to expand their services and will soon be hiring a fatherhood director that will handle programs directly related to men.

“We’ve had a lot of men reach out for help about a number of issues, and we would like to be able to adequately help them,” Wilemon said.

Currently, RRPC is in the process of training three men to help teach classes. In order to compensate for their ever-growing number of services, RRPC will be moving locations from 4th Street to 150 1st Street. Wilemon is hopeful that the move will take place later in the year, as renovations are already underway.

“We’re so excited about our new location and just the idea of our continual growth. We’ve seen a 30 percent increase in clients over the past year, so a larger space is certainly a blessing,” Wilemon said.

Last Thursday, RRPC held their annual banquet, where it announced that they donated over 12,000 diapers and 400 packs of baby wipes over the past year to people who have taken their classes.

They also reached their $100,000 banquet goal, funds that will go towards reaching women and men in the community with compassion, hope, and help.

“The community outreach has been incredible for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful. When my family and I moved here from Mississippi, I told everyone that God brought us somewhere far away for a reason,” Wilemon said.

RRPC will continue to follow CDC medical guidelines moving forward, and those wanting to know more about the services they offer, visit
