Deadline Approaching To Apply For $2,500 Scholarships in Autauga County

The deadline is fast approaching for college seniors or those who have just graduated to apply for one of two $2,500 scholarships. There are additional scholarships for younger children.

The scholarship programs are sponsored by the Autauga County Children’s Policy Council. The PeachTree Scholarship will be awarded to two qualifying high school seniors in Autauga County. This is a needs-based scholarship program. Applications are due by March 10th, 2021.

Scholarships for Children is also available and is a needs-based scholarship program that assists families by providing scholarships for extra-curricular activities. The Scholarships for Children program is a development from the Autauga County Children’s Policy Council. To apply for a scholarship, the child must reside in Autauga County.

The PeachTree Scholarship will be awarded to two students who demonstrate a financial need and have overcome significant obstacles in their lifetime. The application process includes a short essay and an interview. Interviews will be scheduled after the application deadline closes. Requirements include:

• Must demonstrate a financial need

 • Must attend an Autauga County or City of Prattville School

• Must be an Autauga County resident

 • Must be accepted into a 2- or 4-year college or university

• Must be 19 years of age or younger

 • Must be a high school senior

The application process includes writing a 500-word-or-less essay that describes obstacles the applicant has overcome and challenges he or she has faced in their lifetime.

The Scholarships for Children program provides children in low-income and underprivileged families in Autauga County the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities such as art class at P’zazz or Karate at TigerRock. Scholarship winners can choose from Tiger Rock Karate Classes, P’zazz Art Classes, Dance Classes, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Dixie Youth League, field trips and other activities. To apply for a scholarship, the child must reside in Autauga County and the family must be willing to pay what they can afford for the child to participate.

The organization held a dinner at KimberLias’s in January to raise scholarship funding. With a sponsorship by Central Alabama Electric Cooperative and several others, the organization raised more than $2,500 for Scholarships for Children.
