MONTGOMERY POST – A two-vehicle crash at 8:40 a.m. today, Dec. 17, claimed two lives and injured four others. Ethel W. Harris, 73, of Selma and Rashard T. Adkins, 36, of Jones were both killed when the 2006 Lincoln Mark LT in which they were passengers, collided with a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by Raymond Hawthorne Jr., 37, of Pike Road.  Harris and Adkins, who were not using seat belts, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lincoln, Mary Adkins, 71, of Jones, died from her injuries in an area hospital Dec. 18. Two other passengers and Hawthorne were all injured and transported to area hospitals. The crash occurred on Cobbs Ford Road at Interstate 65, approximately one-tenth of a mile west of Millbrook. The preliminary investigation indicates that the Lincoln was actively fleeing the scene of a previous crash that occurred near the intersection of Cobbs Ford Road and U.S. 82. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

A vehicle that was reportedly involved in a hit and run accident in Prattville on Cobbs Ford Road this morning was later involved in a second accident a short time later that ended in the death of two people inside that vehicle.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the double fatality which occurred earlier today at Cobbs Ford Road and I-65, according to Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson.

“But prior to that accident, we received a call about a black truck that had rear-ended a vehicle on Cobbs Ford Road near McCallisters, and had left the scene at a high rate of speed,” Chief Thompson said. There were no injuries reported in relation to the first accident. “We now know that same vehicle that left the scene was involved in the second wreck at Cobbs Ford Road and I-65.”

According to reports from witnesses, the black truck which reportedly left the hit and run was headed eastbound when it approached the interstate north on ramp at a high rate of speed, striking another vehicle and flipping that vehicle on its side. The black truck continued a short distance and came to a stop off the roadway.

The fatalities were in the black truck, reportedly fleeing from the first accident.

Identities of those killed have not been released pending notification of next of kin. We have contacted ALEA for any updates and will share more information as it is released.
