HSEC NEWS: Though a Tough Year, We Have Much to Be Thankful For

As tough as 2020 has been, our Shelter still has a lot to be thankful for and, perhaps especially this week, we should take some time to reflect and give thanks to everyone who supports our work to help all the pets that come through our door.

We have all had to adjust to new was of operating and we are thankful for everyone who has adapted to our changes as well. With the move to appointments we are still doing many great adoptions and doing intakes also by appointment helps us to keep everyone safely “apart.”

While our Tail’s End Thrift Store was shut for seven weeks during the early months of COVID, with the dedication of our Board and Volunteers it reopened and has been going gangbusters since. With their hard work and the generosity of everyone who donates, our Thrift Store is simply a great place to shop and the monies earned help ensure the financial stability of our Shelter.

We greatly appreciate our partners that help us by directly impacting animals in our community starting with our area Animal Control Officers who endeavor to protect the public & help animals in need. And we love all the Veterinarians and their staffs for helping pets in need and educating pet owners to help pets live better and longer lives.

Special thanks to our foster families for giving so much of their time and hearts helping us save even more lives; to our dog exercisers who help our dogs maintain their physical and mental health; and to our Photographers whose talent showcasing our pets most definitely increase adoptions.

Of course, we are incredibly grateful to our donors and supporters as it certainly takes money to keep our doors open and to care for 300 animals on any given day. So many individuals, businesses, and civic groups help us through donations, sponsorships & event support and we truly appreciate how your efforts help us be the best Shelter we can be as we all work together to save lives.

Special thanks to those who give wonderful homes to our adopted pets and those who rescue pets in need. We are indebted to the public who supports our mission directly and indirectly – your moral support for the welfare of animals is important to all of us in the sheltering community and helps keep us going on the down days. For those we may never meet but who love and care for your pets, keep them safe at home, make sure they are a part of your family and cherish them, you have our utmost thanks as you are the homes we strive for every day as we do adoptions.

Our final and most heartfelt thanks go to all the wonderful animals that ask so little of us but give so much in return. Our pets enhance our human lives in so many ways and we are grateful for the selfless love, joy and companionship they bring to our homes and families.

We hope everyone has a family filled Thanksgiving and so that our staff can also enjoy some time with family, the shelter will be closed Thu & Fri, 26 & 27 Nov, but will be back open on Sat, 28 Nov.

We wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
