Prattville Diverts Artesian Well Water to Stormwater System, Rather than Sewer System

From City of Prattville

Did you know the artesian well behind the Prattaugan Museum on Main Street puts out 14,000 gallons of water per day? This well was adding over 5 million gallons of water per year into the sewer system. Last week the Public Works Department, including the Facilities Maintenance and Wastewater Divisions, took that water and diverted it to our stormwater system.

This water will now make its way to Autauga Creek and save over 5 million gallons of water per year from processing through our wastewater plant. Just one great example of how “Public Works is Always Working for You”!

Have you ever visited the Prattaugan Museum, or loaded up gallon jug of the pure, clear water?

The Museum is located at 102 East Main Street in Prattville. It is filled with history of Prattville Founder Daniel Pratt and the early history of the town. Records held at the museum are like a diamond mine for genealogists in the area.

For more information about the museum, visit their website at autaugahistory.org or give them a call at 334.361.0961.

Prattville has the nickname of “The Fountain City” for good reason. There are hundreds of Artesian Wells throughout the city, though many of them have been capped over time. Another popular spot to get the water is at the Doster Well. See more photos below.
