We have an awesome opportunity to partner with Hands on River Region to participate in the 2020 “Stuff the Bus” campaign on Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1!
We will have school buses located at Wetumpka Walmart, Millbrook Walmart, and Prattville Office Depot. You are invited to volunteer to assist in collecting these supplies, all of which will come back to our students in Elmore County.
The Stuff the Bus campaign aims to help meet the needs of children in the community who can’t afford school supplies and uniforms for school. Residents are asked to bring school supplies as donations and literally “stuff” the bus with the school supplies and uniforms.
FIFTY volunteers are needed at each of the locations listed below to help load and sort supplies. 4-hour and all-day shifts are available on Friday, July 31, 7am to 7pm and Saturday, August 1, 7am to 7pm.
Once the buses are filled, the supplies will be distributed to Elmore County Public schools and given to students in need. The Stuff the Bus campaign will provide relief to administration, educators and countless families who will be touched by the great support of the community.
Supplies being collected include: notebook paper (wide and college rule), spiral notebooks, No. 2 pencils, pens, crayons, scissors, glue, colored pencils, rulers, composition books, protractors, pocket folders, pocket folds with clasps, and backpacks (small and large) as well as teaching supplies such as dry eraser markers, color pens, copy paper, markers, reward stickers and uniforms all colors.

FROM RIVER REGION ‘STUFF THE BUS’
River Region “Stuff the Bus” will partner with Montgomery and Elmore County Public School Systems on July 31 and August 1 to help collect school supplies for children in the Montgomery, Wetumpka and Millbrook areas.
For the last eight years “The River Region Stuff the Bus” program has helped Montgomery Public School collect supplies for their students. Last year was the biggest year ever where over 10,000 supplies were collected. This year Coach Nikki Zeigler (Organizer) reached out to Elmore County Schools to join forces with both School programs to help collect supplies in the River Region area.
“We are very excited to participate in this year’s River Region Stuff the Bus campaign,” Elmore County School Supt. Richard Dennis said. “Many of our students’ families have been affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the school supplies collected will help them tremendously. The positive impact of this campaign is likely more significant this year than ever before, and we are thankful to be a part of it.”
Nine buses will be located at all Walmart, Office Depot, And Sam’s Club locations within the River Region Area on July 31st and August 1st. We are inviting local residents and businesses to bring their donated school supplies and literally “stuff” the bus with the school supplies. Once the buses are filled, the supplies will be distributed to River Region Area Public schools and given to students most in need.
The “Stuff the Bus” campaign will provide relief to administration, educators, and countless families that will be touched by the great support of our community. This will allow teachers to focus on teaching during the first few days of school, rather than trying to help the students find the basic supplies they need to function during the school year.
“During this pandemic time our goal is to collect school supplies for children who are in need. All donated supplies will be ‘Stuffed’ on the Elmore County School Buses for two days and shipped to their Central Office” says Coach Nikki Zeigler.
