The Wetumpka Police Department has officially notified CrimeStoppers that one suspect has been identified in an ongoing theft investigation of an enclosed cargo trailer that occurred on June 15, 2020 in the 3900 block of US Highway 231.
According to Wetumpka Investigators, the black male suspect was identified as John Damian Blakney. He was officially charged with Theft of Property 1st degree and placed in the Elmore County Detention Facility. The white male suspect has not been identified and is still at large.
On June 18, 2020, at 2:53 am, Montgomery Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Ann Street in reference to a possible suspect from a trailer theft that occurred in Wetumpka, AL. Upon arrival, contact was made with the complainant. The complainant showed officers the Crime Stoppers video of the theft. The truck used during the theft was parked in a parking lot and attached to a white trailer (not the stolen trailer). The complainant then pointed out the driver of the vehicle to the officer. The driver was taken in custody and appeared to be the same person that was driving the vehicle during the theft. Contact was made with the Wetumpka Police Department, who responded, and transported the suspect, and towed the truck and trailer to the Wetumpka Police Department.
Investigators are hoping that someone will be able to identify the second suspect through the release of John Damian Blaney’s arrest.
