This week, the USDA Farm to Families Food Box Program was at Stanley-Jensen Stadium in Prattville, and handed out 560 boxes of free food for those in need. The program will take place again in Elmore County at the Wetumpka Civic Center June 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

What is This?

Central Alabama Aging Consortium (CAAC) has partnered with the USDA, GA Foods and the Alabama Department of Senior Services to provide FREE boxes of food for those in need.

From the CAAC:

“We will distribute a total of 560 food boxes on a first come/first served basis at the event. There will be a limit of 1 box per car unless the driver is providing transportation for a senior citizen or a person with a disability who does not drive and who lives in a separate household.”

In each box you will find 8 pieces of fresh fruit, 5 pounds of pre-cooked meat (chicken or pork), approximately 5 pounds of assorted fresh vegetables, 12 ounces of cheese, 1 pound of butter and the equivalent of one-half gallon of milk.

CAAC, GA Foods and volunteers will be distributing the food boxes.

In Elmore County, the program was first held this year on June 4. It will return again on June 25 at the Wetumpka Civic Center located at 410 S.  Main Street in Wetumpka.
