Special to Elmore Autauga News
It’s back.
Some say it is the best pizza in Alabama. Others say the Lasagna is even better than the pizza. Midtown Pizza Kitchen (MPK) reopened its Prattville location after temporarily closing due to the coronavirus.
Owner Will Meacham began MPK in Montgomery off Zelda Road in 2011. The success at the Montgomery location led him to open a location in Prattville at High Point Town Center in 2015. It didn’t take long for MPK to become a popular spot for great Italian food north of the Alabama River. “The people in Autauga and Elmore Counties have been very supportive, and we have enjoyed being there. It’s a good spot to go and eat because we have Chappy’s, Tokyo Japanese Steak House, Chicken Salad Chick and MPK right together,” Meacham explained.
Like other restaurants MPK was not spared from COVID-19. Meacham was able to keep the Montgomery location going on carryout and curbside business, but it just wasn’t possible in Prattville. “We operated for five days with just take out but saw it wasn’t going to be sustainable. I looked at the long term instead of the short term and decided to shut down,” Meacham explained. “When some of the assistance became available we re-opened for curbside and carryout.”
In addition to providing some of the finest food in the area every day, Meacham is looking at what business will be like once things loosen up. Things will not be easy for anyone in the restaurant business once government allows people to dine inside. “We will follow all protocol, and one of those things will be to make sure we will have tables separated by the required margin. I’ve already examined things and believe I will lose thirty nine seats in Montgomery and thirty in Prattville. It will remain tough for anyone in this business for a while,” Meacham forecasted.
Meacham says the popular spot will be running specials everyday once patrons can dine in. As for now MPK also offers online ordering which will place all of those customers in a database to automatically receive a coupon for a monthly special.
Until further notice The MPK Prattville hours are Sunday and Monday closed; Tuesday 3pm-8pm; Wednesday-Saturday 11am-8pm.
