Beef jerky, prepared meals, boiled peanuts, fresh fruits and vegetables and hanging plants are just a few of the items you can buy this year at the upcoming Millbrook Farmers Market.

The Market will open on May 12 at the Village Green on Main Street. There will be a Market each Tuesday morning until August 11 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Ann Harper, Millbrook’s economic developer, said the Market will utilize “Best Practices” and other precautionary measures to help ensure that customers and vendors remain safe. For example, the Market will utilize a larger area of the Village Green to ensure that vendors and customers have more room to spread out, she said.

“We will also have several hand washing stations and will be posting Best Practices for the protection of customers such as limiting the handling of produce,” Harper said.

Harper said vendors will also be advised on things they can do to protect themselves and their customers such as wearing food-grade gloves and keeping more of the produce behind the counter.

Market Manager Chuck Burns said there are 10 vendors signed up so far, He said there is a new farmer who sells sausages, dried meats, prepared meals and more. “She was at the Eastchase Market and probably did better than anyone there,” Burns said.

He said Steve Willis will bring his hanging and flowering greenhouse plants. Penton Farms and Evan Farms will bring vegetables and fruits such as strawberries. Henry Tucker will bring his roasted and boiled peanuts. Letties’ Cookies will have cakes, cookies and other treats. Deramus Farms will also be there with vegetables.

Harper encouraged people to come out and support the area’s local vendors and products.

The opening date is subject to change contingent upon COVID-19 developments.
