UPDATE: 19TH Judicial Circuit Staff Files 59 Motions Opposing Immediate Release of Inmates with Bond of $5000 or Less in Autauga, Chilton and Elmore

Chief Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson has this update on the state of an order from Judge Ben Fuller to release prisoners from Autauga, Chilton and Elmore County Jails with bonds of $5,000 or less.

FROM C.J. ROBINSON, CHIEF ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY

19TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT (AUTAUGA, CHILTON AND ELMORE COUNTIES)

After much work by our dedicated employees in all three counties we filed 59 motions opposing the immediate release of inmates with a bond of $5,000 or less from the county jails in our circuit after last weeks order. We didn’t file a motion on every person with a bond of $5,000 or less because we tried to balance the current crisis we are living in against the danger to the community that would exist if certain persons were released.

As I stated previously the DA’s office was not notified before this order was entered, but several of our judges entered subsequent orders delaying the release 5 days for us to file objection(s) if we desired. We did.

After reviewing each case, the following people were about to walk out of our jails: sex offenders who weren’t complying with reporting requirements, one in possession of child porn, those with multiple domestic violence and/or dui arrests, those with a history of alluding law enforcement and/or failing to appear, someone who shoot into an occupied building, drug dealers, and many who committed repeated burglaries, thefts and drug offenses. One even had a pending murder case in a neighboring county. A quarter of the motions we filed were on defendants who had been arrested 15+ times.

Many of these motions will be granted or denied tomorrow. Thank you to everyone for all the support and encouragement as we continue to seek the truth and do justice.
