BY SARAH STEPHENS, EAN OWNER/EDITOR

A Millbrook man is in custody after he reportedly assaulted one family member, threatened another family member and barricaded himself in a home on Rainge Road around 10:15 p.m. Sunday night.

Millbrook officers were called after the man, whose identity has not yet been released, reportedly assaulted a family member in the front yard, then forced the victim into the home. The suspect then reportedly refused to come out when officers arrived. He is also suspected of threatening a second female family member, who was able to escape out a back door and went to the police station for help.

Millbrook officers, as well as Elmore County Deputies, surrounded the house trying to convince the man to come out willingly. The subject reportedly barricaded doors from the inside of the home with furniture.

After about a three-hour standoff, officers forcefully entered the home, taking the suspect into custody around 1:20 a.m.. They used an explosive breach to remove the door. The man who was reportedly assaulted did not have any serious injuries, according to Millbrook Police Chief P.K Johnson.

Officers are working on charges for Millbrook, and additional charges are expected from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office. It is expected charges could include domestic violence, domestic violence and harassment, and resisting arrest.

“Domestic violence, unfortunately, is something we deal with in law enforcement on a daily basis,” Chief Johnson said. “Tonight it was alleged that we had an individual that had been assaulted and when we attempted to make contact with the suspect, he refused any contact with law enforcement. Based on the information that we had, we had to make sure the individual that was reportedly assaulted was safe. With the assistance of the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, we had to force entry into the residence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the alleged victim was found to be in the home but safe. This incident ended as safely as it could be. I want to thank the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case and I appreciate the professionalism by both our officers and the sheriff’s office to bring this situation to a safe conclusion.”

We will have an update when available.
