Mr. Douglas “Burky” Gene Burkhalter, Sr. age 61, a resident of Millbrook, AL passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Brookside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Burkhalter was a 1976 graduate of Stanhope Elmore High School. Immediately following graduation Burky went into building homes in the Tri County area. After becoming a successful builder he accumulated many certifications in the building inspection field, and achieved the highest available certification of Certified Building and Master Code Professional.
During this time he worked as the building official in the Town of Elmore, Town of Coosada and the City of Millbrook. He retired from the City of Millbrook in 2016 and continued doing inspections under his LLC- D. B. Inspections until his untimely death.
He was preceded in death by his father, Denson Gaines Burkhalter and brother Denson Gaines Burkhalter, Jr.
He is survived by his mother Frances E. Burkhalter, sons Douglas Gene Burkhalter, Jr and Jackson Colby Burkhalter (Mekenzi) and one grandson Dylon Gaines Burkhalter.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Kelley, Brent Lucas, Duke Lucas, Steve Silas, Jim Cobb, Michael Harris, Jim Peek and Daniel Wainwright. The family and friends will assemble at the graveside for his service on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Brookside Funeral Home of Millbrook, AL directing.
