Deaux Boys in Millbrook Back in the Hands of Original Family Members

By Andrew Edwards, Staff Writer

A Perfect 100! Somer Cost is proud of the score from the Health Department for Deaux Boys, and she should be.

Founded back in 2016 by Susan Jones, Deaux Boys has served the Millbrook community with its delicious donuts, coffee and kolaches! During its four-year lifespan, the Creole themed donut shop has made its mark as the premiere bakery in the Millbrook area.

Now Jones’ niece, Somer Cost, is back with her husband Michael to carry on the original family recipes.

From 2016-2019, Jones ran the restaurant nearly single-handedly. Cost says the shop was originally opened as a treat for Jones’ grandchildren. But even after a successful three-year stint, Cost says that Jones had to sell due to failing health.

From 2019-January 2020, Deaux Boys was still open but out of the hands of the original family owners. However, once the business was put back out on the market, Cost said she had to act.

“My husband and I were actually going to move down to Mobile. We saw on Facebook that Deaux Boys was being sold, and this is a place that we’ve always loved. So, we sat down and decided that we would buy it. We wanted to keep ownership of the business in the family,” Cost said.

The business just recently shifted ownership, with Somer and Michael making their debut on February 14th, 2020. Somer says the reception has been great in the short amount of time since they’ve taken the reigns again.

“Everyone around is just so nice and neighborly. All of the customers that come here feel like my family already,” Cost said. “We’re just glad to bring the original family recipes back to the Millbrook area.”

And with those recipes, Deaux Boys brings every type of donut that you could possibly want. From chocolate with sprinkles to bacon covered donuts, Deaux Boys is here to serve your every need! They also have king cakes for Mardi Gras, breakfast donuts, kolaches, and coffee too!
