Prattville’s WOBT to Hold Auditions for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ Jan. 5, 6; Possible Callbacks Jan. 7

Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre is excited to announce auditions for its presentation of Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Joey B. Fine.  

Auditions will take place January 5 and 6, with possible call backs on January 7. The auditions will be held at the Way Off Broadway Theatre in the Cultural Arts Building in Prattville beginning at 5:30 p.m. on January 5 and 6:00pm on January 6. Actors do not need to attend both nights. Registration for the auditions will begin 30 minutes prior to posted audition times.

There will be parts for two male actors age 25-35, one male age 50-65, four females age 20-35, and various ensemble players ages 20-40.  Actors interested should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue as well as 16-20 bars of music. An accompanist will be provided or those auditioning may sing a Cappella or bring mp3 music.  No numbers from the production should be performed.  Actors also should be prepared to sing in a group setting. There will be a short, choreographed group piece and possibly cold readings from the script as well.  

Little Shop of Horrors will begin practices on January 14. A detailed practice list will be handed out at auditions. 

Little Shop of Horrors, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, is based on the film by Roger Corman, screenplay by Charles Griffith.  It is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).  The production will open April 16, 2020, and will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through May 3.

 DIRECTED BY: JOEY B. FINE

 DATE:  January 5 and 6, with possible call backs on January 7. 

LOCATION:  Way Off Broadway Theatre in the Cultural Arts Building, 203 West 4th Street in Prattville 

 TIME: 5:30pm January 5 and 6:00pm January 6. Actors do not need to attend both nights. 

 REGISTRATION for the auditions will begin 30 minutes prior to posted audition times. 

 REQUIREMENTS:   Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue, 16 -20 bars of music. An accompanist will be provided or you may sing a Cappella or bring your own mp3 music. Please do not sing numbers from production.   Also be prepared to sing in a group setting.   There will be a short choreographed group piece.  There also may be cold readings from the script. 

 REHEARSALS:  Little Shop of Horrors will begin practices on January 14. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided at auditions. 

 PRODUCTION DATES:  Little Shop will open April 16 and run through May 3. 

 CHARACTER LIST: 

 Seymour Krelborn – An insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills. Gender: Male Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: A2

Audrey Bleached – blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor. Gender: Female Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: G#3

Mr. Mushnik – The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour’s nosy boss. He is profitdriven, greedy, and manipulative. Gender: Male Age: 50 to 65 Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: G2  

Orin Scrivello An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour. Gender: Male Age: 25 to 40 Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: G2

 The Plant (Audrey II) Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer can be voice of plant as well. 

Voice of The Plant An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart ‘villain.’ A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best. Gender: Male Age: 20 to 50 Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: G2

Crystal Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Gender: Female Age: 20 to 35 Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: Ab3
