Millbrook Police Arrest 74-Year-Old for Possession of Child Pornography; More Charges Possible

BY CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Monday, November 25, 2019, investigators with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit placed Winston D. Williams Jr., a 74-year-old Millbrook resident, under arrest on one count of Possession of Child Pornography following service of a search warrant, which was conducted at his residence in the 800 block of Deatsville Highway. Williams was transported to the Millbrook Police Department for processing and later placed in the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under no bond until a warrant of arrest is obtained and served.

Our investigators received a tip that the suspect in question was downloading suspected child pornography, at which time members of the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. That search warrant was served this morning and investigators did seize evidence that confirmed information received. Our investigators felt like there was more than enough probable cause to support an arrest. Evidence was seized from Williams’ residence and collected for processing.

At this point in the investigation I am limited in what I can comment on, as the investigation is ongoing. After speaking to our investigators, I am fairly confident that additional charges against this individual will be forthcoming. We live in the information and technology age. With computers and the storage capabilities that they possess it is possible for an individual to download and possess hundreds, if not thousands of these images. What people need to understand……each one of these images represent a criminal offense. These are serious offenses because they concern minor children under seventeen years of age. I appreciate our investigators and the ICAC Task Force for the work they’ve done on this case and others in our area. As a parent and grandparent, this stuff concerns me greatly. I know it’s difficult to have to see and deal with this kind of material, especially when you have children or grandchildren of your own. At the end of the day that’s why we do what we do. We want our community to be safe for our citizens and their children.
