Cans and Coats Drive at Millbrook Chamber Brings in Donations for Needy; Donations still Accepted

By Andrew Edwards, Staff Writer

The Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce along with Leadership Elmore County have been collecting gently worn coats, hats, gloves, scarfs and non-perishable food items for the past month.

The reasoning? To give back to the community and to show support to the Millbrook area.

“We collected over two full tubs of clothing and about half tub of canned goods up until this point,” said Elisa Jones, executive director at the Millbrook chamber. “Being able to serve the community in any form or fashion is always what we strive to do here at the chamber.”

But where are the items going to be donated? Currently, the chamber plans to give the food away to the Millbrook W.E.L.C.O.M.E. Center, while the destination for the clothes are still up in the air.

“We’ve been in contact with the Millbrook YMCA and think it would be a good idea to try and donate the clothes to their brown bag program, which helps to donate food and clothing to low-income communities,” Jones said.

On Thursday night, the Chamber had an after-hours mixer to allow people from the community to come in and donate necessary items. However, if you missed the event, then you can still donate! Just call the Millbrook Chamber at 334-285-0085 for more information!
