The Elmore County Food Pantry is inviting the community to bring their rides and support a cause later this month during the “Jeeps, Bikes & Rides for a Cause” community vehicle show in Wetumpka.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wetumpka Sports Complex, located at 2350 Coosa River Parkway. Organizers say the show will welcome a wide variety of vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles, Jeeps and ATVs, with trophies awarded across several categories.
In addition to the vehicle showcase, the event will feature food trucks, music, raffles, door prizes, a silent auction and family-friendly activities throughout the day. Spectator admission is free, though donations to the food pantry are encouraged. Attendees are also encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to support local families.
While the event centers around vehicles and community fun, organizers say the mission behind it is much deeper.
The Elmore County Food Pantry was established in 2008 under the leadership of Pastor Charles Chamblee of Victory Temple Church in Wetumpka. What began as a small faith-driven effort to help struggling families in Elmore County has steadily grown into one of the county’s largest community outreach ministries.
The pantry moved to its longtime location on Company Street in 2010 before later purchasing its current facility on West Boundary Street in 2014. Today, the organization serves hundreds of families each month across Elmore County communities including Wetumpka, Millbrook, Tallassee, Eclectic, Titus and Deatsville.
According to recent pantry statistics, the organization assisted 478 families in January alone, distributing more than 39,000 pounds of food throughout the county. The pantry also completed 60 home deliveries for residents unable to travel to the facility.
Organizers hope the upcoming vehicle show will not only raise donations but also remind residents how much of an impact local support can make. According to the pantry, every $1 donated can provide up to six pounds of food for neighbors in need right here in Elmore County.
“No one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. This fundraiser helps us continue serving local families with dignity and compassion,” said Heather Skinner, director of the Elmore County Food Pantry. “The support from this event directly impacts the lives of people in our community who need help the most. Every registration, sponsorship and donation helps provide food and support to families right here in Elmore County.”
Vehicle preregistration is $20, while day-of registration at the gate will be $30. Vendors and food trucks are also being sought for the event, with booth registration set at $50. Food and drink vendors will contribute 10% of sales back to the cause.
