FROM TERESA CALHOUN
Autauga County Technology Center students recently brought home top honors after competing in this year’s Alabama Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference.
This year’s event was held in Mobile and took place between March 19th and March 21st, with awards being announced on Thursday, March 21st. FBLA is the largest co-curricular business organization in the country. Students were able to select from over 60 events in which to compete, ranging from Public Speaking to Accounting to Graphic Design, as well as chapter projects. FBLA chapters are open to all students, not only those participating in Business Education courses.
Business Teacher Teresa Calhoun is proud of all the work her students put into studying for their events. “These topics are so varied that each student studied on their own and really had to learn as much as they could about their topic to be able to excel.” Calhoun was able to find sample tests and flash cards online to share with her FBLA students to give them even more study resources.
In addition to state competitions, several regional and state leadership offices were announced. Destini Whittle shared that she enjoyed attending FBLA State because she got to meet other FBLA students and attend workshops to learn more about the world of business.
All four ACTC students who went to FBLA State Competition placed in their events.
Business Communications: Riley Calhoun, 1st place
Journalism: Katy Jo Cahoon, 1st place
Healthcare Administration: Destini Whittle, 4th place
Computer Problem Solving: Kaid Winslow, 2nd place
