Holtville High School Starts Current Event/News Production Class

From Holtville High School

The 2021-2022 school year has started off with a bang, especially for a new class at Holtville High School. This year, a Current Events/News Production class was introduced. These students are learning about research, how to describe news from various perspectives, how to gauge between facts and opinions, how to write and share the news, and how to film/photograph important events.

The course is an elective and is helping students learn how to share their voice. While the class size this year may be small, these students are already tackling understanding various news stories from across the country. They are learning to research credible news sources and how to share information, as well as craft their own voice. These students are also learning how to use the Adobe Production platform and will become familiar with Photoshop and Premiere Pro as the course progresses this year. Students will be writing about school events, athletics, club activities, and community/state events. Thanks to a partnership with Elmore/Autauga News, they will be able to share about their experiences and events happening in and around Holtville and the State with you!

This course is taught by newcomer to Holtville, Tatum Northington, who has over 8 years of experience in teaching and over 10 years of experience in Telecommunications and Film. Her expertise will help these students cultivate their own voices and opinions and help them become contributing members of their awesome community. Ms. Northington says “I am so excited about this opportunity to help students learn to share their voice. These high school students are so knowledgeable about the world around them and truly want to learn more. In just four short weeks I have seen them excel in sharing their opinions with fact-based research and hope to help them continue to build confidence in themselves. The world is literally at their fingertips, and there is no better time than now to start understanding our responsibilities as citizens of this community, state, and country.”

With this class, students will be prepared for a myriad of jobs and hobbies outside of high school, such as, creative writing, TV Production, News analysis, Broadcasting, Editing, Videography, Photography, Biographical Writing and so much more. The students are excited and cannot wait to share their stories with the community! Be sure to watch out for the next big thing straight from Holtville High. Go Bulldogs!!
