From Larry Caver
OAHS President
OAHS (Old Autauga Historical Society) honors Fred W. Mann, who was born on this date, August 25, 1924. Fred is remembered as THE BAND DIRECTOR of Autauga County. He came to Prattville and served as the band director at the former Autauga County High School for many years. He also worked with bands at other schools in the county such as Hicks Memorial School at Autaugaville.
Are you interested in the history of Autauga County? OAHS is actively seeking new members. Dues are just $10 a year to become a member.
Alumni of Autauga County High School may want to consider membership. OAHS is planning a very special event on April 2, 2022 commemorating the history of ACHS from its very beginning up until it closed.
.In 1830, there was no Prattville, no Pratt Village, or even a Daniel Pratt. Autauga County and its earliest residents pre-date the advent of Daniel Pratt. As I have said many times before, Pratt has left a GREAT legacy in Alabama history. However, Autauga County and Alabama existed long before he ever came here. The history of Old Autauga is NOT a monolog. It is a drama with many characters, Native American, White and Black. OAHS remains dedicated to sharing and preserving the history of ALL peoples and communities of Old Autauga County.
