Prattville Swim League (PSL) Coach Joe Reynolds attended the Prattville City Council meeting, May 5, 2026, to present information about the program, highlighting the need for a new city pool in the near future.

PSL, formerly known as the Prattville Flying Fish, continues to make waves, developing swimmers who have competed at the collegiate and national levels while consistently ranking among the top five teams in Alabama Recreation and Parks Association swimming.

Alumni include U.S. Olympic Trials competitors, a former University of Alabama swim team captain, and a former University of Alabama Swimming and Diving assistant coach. Olympic bronze medalist Chloe Sutton also began swimming in Prattville. Since 2002, 26 Prattville swimmers have earned collegiate swimming scholarships, including 17 since 2016.

“It’s not just a swimming team,” said Reynolds. “It is a program. We don’t just swim. We do dry land training, weights, running, stretching, and we sacrifice…it’s all year round. We also talk about the swimming trinity: proper swimming, proper nutrition, and proper rest, and I do that during character sessions that I have with these kids.”

Reynolds explained that only two to three percent of his swimmers ultimately compete at the collegiate level, making it essential that the program teaches lessons that extend beyond athletics and help build character. District 7 Councilor Thea Langley advocated for Reynolds coaching as her girls were once part of the program.

“I think that there’s definitely a need [for a new city pool] in not only our community but the River Region,” said District 7 Councilor Thea Langley. “You [Reynolds] have proven that we can work off of a crumbling spot, so imagine what we could do with a nice facility.”
