Seniors at the Millbrook Senior Center enjoyed a lively and engaging morning during a penny auction held on Feb. 4, 2026. The popular activity brings residents together for friendly competition and plenty of laughs, while giving participants a chance to bid on useful and fun items.
The auction allows seniors to bid using tokens, with bids ranging from one to ten tokens per item. Prizes typically include toiletries, household goods, snacks, and other everyday essentials. Participants place their tokens on the items they want, and the highest bidder takes home the prize.
Venable shared that the penny auction began four months ago and has quickly become a favorite activity. Each senior receives 10 free tokens to use during the event, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate and enjoy the experience.
Local businesses frequently support the event by donating items and sharing information about their services. This week’s auction was sponsored by ArchWell Health, a new senior health care clinic that recently opened in Montgomery. Representatives provided prizes, snacks, and helpful health information for attendees.
“Our seniors had a blast with a penny auction sponsored by ArchWell Health today,” said Director Olivia Venable. “This business brought all of the prizes, snacks, and good information that was beneficial to our seniors.” The Millbrook Senior Center is located at 3771 Grandview Road and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is served daily at 11:30 a.m. The center continues to offer programs and activities that promote connection, fun, and well-being for local seniors.
