Wetumpka softball’s Alyssa Brown recently committed to continue her athletic career at Grambling State University. The school is located in Grambling, Louisiana, just a few miles away from Louisiana Tech University. Grambling State competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference of Division 1. Last year, the Tigers went 17-30 overall and 10-14 in conference play.

“I committed because it felt right for me, and I really like the coaches. They were very relatable, and it seemed like they really wanted me there,” said Brown.  “Making a commitment before my senior season takes a lot of pressure off me so I can really focus on my senior season at Wetumpka.”

Brown traveled to Louisiana in January to visit Grambling State.

“I loved the way it felt like home when I was there. I could really see myself being there in the future. I met Coach Matthews and Coach Hall on the visit. They both have great energy and showed a genuine and authentic interest in me. It seemed like they really care about me as a person and a player.”

Brown first met with Coach Matthews during her freshman season at Wetumpka and kept in contact, sending the Tigers’ coach Wetumpka’s schedule so she could check in on her.

The Wetumpka senior has some goals in mind for her final season in high school, and then beyond.

“I want to enjoy my last season at Wetumpka. I’m going to push the girls and myself and stay positive. And of course, I want to win a state championship.  At Grambling, I want to thrive academically and athletically.”

Brown plans to major in PT.
