Elmore Autauga News (EAN) will provide readers with verified, factual coverage in the coming weeks of the Enhance Elmore plan, which goes before voters on the local ballot in November 2025.
The proposal is intended to help Elmore County manage rapid growth while expanding services and improving residents’ quality of life.
During the 2025 Alabama legislative session, lawmakers approved for the Elmore County Commission to impose three measures that will fund infrastructure and economic development: a levelized county sales tax, an increased motor vehicle tag fee, and a levelized rental tax.
Lawmakers also approved adding a local constitutional amendment to the November ballot for property assessment and a vape/tobacco excise tax, directing the revenue from each measure to public health, safety, and fire services like:
- Construction of a new county jail
- Increased funding for fire departments across the county
- Expanded judicial and administrative space for two new circuit judges and a growing sheriff’s office
- Road and bridge projects to help address an 8-million-dollar annual deficit in resurfacing, rehabilitation, and replacement work
As the election approaches, EAN will break down what Enhance Elmore covers — and what it does not — to help voters separate fact from fiction.
