Stanhope Elmore High School is full of talented students in many different categories of school groups, sports, and extracurriculars, however, there is one group in particular that is shining a light on how to prepare students for their futures.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a group that is led by Ms. Emma Constant. Constant is helping students learn and grow their business skills as well as leadership skills to set them up for success when they enter the workforce.
Constant shared, “FBLA is one of the leading Career Tech Student Organizations worldwide, designed to develop leadership skills such as teambuilding, academic-based skills in business administration, marketing, management, business communications, networking, as well as promote civic and personal responsibilities.” She goes on to state that there are three levels of membership within the FBLA and that is Middle School, High School, and Collegiate.
Stanhope Elmore High School has featured the September Members of the Month. Those two members happen to be a part of this group as brother and sister, Ethan and Emma Kicker. Each sibling was drawn to the program for individual reasons and has taken an interest in learning more through this program offered through their school.
“I became interested when my friend told me how much they enjoyed being a part of it,” stated Emma. Ethan shared, “I heard people talking about how it helps with leadership skills and how they do community service. That was interesting to me, so I joined.”
Constant herself said that she, too, was a member of FBLA in High School. “Career Tech Student Organizations, like FBLA, are more than clubs where students are able to get a return on their investment. Students are adorned with skills to become competitive, competent, and valuable citizens of their community.”
The siblings, when asked what advice they would give other students thinking about joining FBLA, Emma said, “I would say you should join so they will learn a lot and improve leadership skills.”
“You should join FBLA because it lets you be a part of the community. It also helps with leadership skills. Invite your friends because it is more fun with more people,” said Ethan.
Ethan and Emma are happy to team up and be a part of this group together, and look forward to learning more
“My goal is to teach students about maximizing their potential to become greater. I provide exposure to experiences beyond the classroom. Our students are talented leaders with the ability to send a ripple effect into positive future endeavors. Students can apply what is learned in the classroom and crosswalk skills into pathways of career opportunities,” said Constant.
