The Millbrook Police Department will host its 15th annual Cops ‘N Kids event, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Village Green Park, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is geared toward children from 3 to 15 years of age, but all are welcome.

Many young people grow up feeling shy or even afraid around police officers—not because of anything the officers have done, but because well-meaning parents and grandparents sometimes warn children that they will be arrested if they misbehave. While these comments are usually meant as lighthearted discipline, they can unintentionally create fear. As a result, children may hesitate to approach an officer for help during an emergency, such as when they get lost in a crowd or inside a grocery store—the very moments when police can be their greatest allies. Events like this help ease those fears by giving kids a chance to meet officers in a friendly, approachable setting.

“I want our department to have the best relationship we can with the citizens that we serve, in each neighborhood and community that makes up our city,” said P.K Johnson, Chief of Police for Millbrook. “What better segment of our citizens to begin than our young people.”

T-shirts will be provided for the first 1,000 children to register at the event. There will be plenty of fun, food, and games during the event, at no charge, while our young people get an opportunity to interact with our local police officers, firefighters and other public safety officials. There will also be static displays and K-9 demonstrations during the event. This is an excellent chance for families to meet our public servants in a relaxed and fun environment.

“This is an opportunity for our citizens to get to know us as human beings, to see past the gun and badge, and realize that we are real people just like them,” said Johnson. “It’s a great day full of family fun, games, activities and free food for the kids.”
