For five years now, the Old Autauga Historical Society has existed, and they have worked on multiple projects to preserve history and buildings. The OAHS, as they are often called, is celebrating a birthday event, as well as their first quarterly meeting of the year Jan. 18.

Larry Caver is the President of OAHS and said the event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at Ivy Creek Methodist Church. The church is located at 3068 Hwy. 14 West in Autaugaville.

Caver said speakers will include:

Jeannie Johnson – Ivy Creek/Mulberry Community

Linda S. Walker – Will share about her grandmother, Mattie Lou Gay Smedley, and her quilts.

Dr. Cathy Wood- will share about her Wood Family from Statesville, and the first Wood settler there who was a doctor.

Gladys Stephens Elliott- will share about the early Steele Family of Western Autauga County.

Larry E Caver- will reflect over the first “5” years of Old Autauga Historical Society (OAHS).

The meeting with be followed by a special birthday cake (OAHS) and refreshments!

OAHS is always seeking new members! If you have a love of history, or just want to learn more about local history, and preserving important history, you are welcome to attend the quarterly meeting. Membership is just $10 per year.
