Marbury’s own Jacob Driver has officially made the commitment to play at the next level where he will continue his athletic career at the collegiate level, playing baseball at Meridian Community College.

“Signing to play college baseball has been a dream of mine since I can remember. It is a huge steppingstone in my career for me to be able to reach the goals I have set for myself,” Driver said.

Driver is a pitcher and also plays first and third base, Marbury High School’s Head Baseball Coach Kevin Hall stated. He said that Driver has the qualities along with the skillset to play at the next level on and off the field. Hall confirmed that Driver not only is a model player but is also strong academically, has high morals and great people skills.

“To have players get to achieve one of their dreams of playing college baseball is priceless. For Jacob to sign at a well-known school for baseball is huge for him, his family, Marbury High School, the community, and our program.  Jacob has been a high value player for some time and created his opportunity to play at the next level,” Hall said.

When asked, Driver stated that his most memorable moment of his high school baseball career was a game against Elmore County his freshman year, where the game went into extra innings, to then walk it off for a spot in the playoffs.

“The thing that excites me the most about signing to play college baseball is that it has been my dream my whole life and now I am able to live that dream out and be able to compete at the next level because few people get the opportunity that I have been given,” Driver said.

Hall stated that Driver checks all the boxes on and off the diamond being a genuine person with great character. Hall also credited Driver’s family and friends for having a hand in shaping the amazing young man he has turned into, Hall stated.

“We are very excited and proud of him for his accomplishment and players like himself are exactly what they are looking to invest in,” Hall said.
