From Richard Dennis
Elmore County Schools
Good afternoon, Elmore County, this is Richard Dennis, Superintendent of Elmore County Public Schools. This week is the anniversary of 9/11 and very often draws the attention of those that want to create fear in communities. Last night it started early as several social media threats were made concerning several Elmore County Schools mainly in the Millbrook and Coosada Communities and one in the Eclectic Community. Law enforcement is investigating these and other posts in Elmore County and surrounding school systems. Unfortunately, we have several students that have commented and participated in the social media threats. This is a Class III Offense with potentially significant school discipline consequences, in addition to legal charges as well. Parents, please, talk to your child and emphasize that these threats are not humorous and will not be tolerated; it will result in removal from school for an extended time. Additionally, we ask that parents refrain from spreading false information which only creates more fear and anxiety for everyone in the community.
And as I mention each week, if you would like to receive my call outs and other system-wide communications texted through Remind, to include emergency notifications, visit the Elmore County Public Schools website and follow the registration process.
Enjoy your afternoon.
Richard Dennis
