Prattville teens take Battle Chef Champ title

From the Autauga

County Extension Office

One of the best stories to read about for the summer of 2024! This summer program was one for the record books. This is the fifth year that Teen Battle Chef Program took place in Alabama. Prattville teens participated in Teen Battle Chef at Ward Chapel, AME Church. These teens came ready to battle it out against Montgomery teens.

Teen Battle Chef is a culinary arts program sponsored by Autauga County Extension Office, under the direction of Shonda Wright. These teens worked hard, slicing and dicing, boiling, frying and preparing dishes that were worthy of fine dining restaurants. To name a few of the dishes, Asian Springs Rolls, Mexican Vegetarian Tacos, Thai Fish Chowder, New Orleans Shrimp Jambalaya, Brazilian Bean Stew, Jamaican Beans and Rice, Native American Spicy Corn Salad, and Italian Panzanella Salad.

2024 Teen Battle Chefs are: Valedictorian Chef Destyne Townsend, Salutatorian Chef Jamyah Straight, Chef Madison Wood, Chef Kamerlya Thomas, Chef Kaden Campbell, Chef Jamaica Straight, Chef Raelyn Averhart, Chef Kamiya Reese, Chef Temaury Willims, Chef Kalem Campbell, Chef Julianna Richard, and Chef Kaidence Campbell.

Celebrity judges came out to score these young chefs on their elaborate foods. Not only did the young chefs graduate from this culinary program, but they are forever honorary members of Teen Battle Chef, which is a national culinary program for youth. By the way, after adding up the scores, Prattville Teens beat Montgomery Teens and took back the title of Teen Battle Chef Champs from two years go. These young chefs taught us all that with perseverance and difficult tsks, problems can be solved when we work together as a team. Teamwork makes the dream work. The excitement was overwhelming and Prattville teens are looking forward to battling it out against next year.
