The Autauga-Prattville Public Library Board met for a special called meeting last Friday evening, where all members of the board were present. The meeting was brief, less than four minutes total. The meeting was called to order and immediately went into executive session.

Chairman of the Board, Ray Boles called the meeting back to order after the executive session, and gave the floor to the Board’s attorney, Bryan Taylor of Bachus, Brom & Taylor, LLC Business Litigation Lawyers out of Birmingham. Taylor addressed the Board and the public, consisting only of Elmore Autauga News, the Board’s other lawyer Laura Clark and interim director Tammy Bear.

Taylor confirmed during the executive session, the Board discussed a settlement for the former Prattville Autauga Library Director, Andrew Foster, regarding his termination as library director last month.

“I just wanted to make sure everybody understood that we were in executive session for me to relay some discussions I’ve had with Mr. Foster’s counsel about the prospects for settlement. I’ve conveyed some ideas about that to each of you (on the Board) as your lawyer subject to client privilege. Many of you asked me questions, but there was no deliberation on this matter,” Taylor said.

Taylor then asked the board to appoint an individual on the Board to be authorized to negotiate the final terms of the settlement agreement on behalf of the Board.

Taylor confirmed that the individual would negotiate the final terms of the settlement on behalf of the Board and with himself as the attorney representing the Board. Then, the individual would bring the final settlement agreement back to the Board for the Board’s consideration, which will be voted on in the next Library Board meeting.

The next Library Board meeting is May 16th, 10 a.m. at the Prattville-Autauga Public Library.

The Board unanimously selected vice chairman Rachel Daniels, a county appointed member of the Board, as the spokesperson for the Board regarding the settlement agreement with Foster.
