The Autauga County Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night where numerous citizens from the public spoke in the standing room only meeting.

The Commission started the meeting by honoring James Miller for his dedicated and over 15 years of service in keeping County Road 4 clean, bringing in over 500 bags of trash per year, Commissioner John Thrailkill confirmed while reading the proclamation honoring Miller.

According to the proclamation honoring Miller, when asked why he continues to pick up trash along County Road 4, Miller “I feel the lord has asked me to do it.”

“I know it can be discouraging when you clean the road up and come back two days later and feel like nothing has been done, but we are appreciative of what you do,” Autauga County Chairman Jay Thompson said.

With tears in his eyes, Miller thanked the Commission and stated it wasn’t about having his name on a sign, but being recognized by his community and elected officials, which makes all the difference.

“I want to thank the commission for recognizing me today, I don’t care about personal recognition, but I want to thank Jettison Environmental, for supporting me. Someone threw a TV set on the side of the road, and I can’t deal with it and other things. I found a loaded gun, called the police and they came and got it. I appreciate the appreciation today,” Miller said.

Chairman of the Prattville Library Board Ray Boles and the Autauga Prattville Public Library interim Director Tammy Bear both were first to address the council and the public, stating everything will be back to normal in a couple weeks.

Many members of Read Freely Alabama and opposing arguments addressed the Commission with their opinions of the recent Prattville Library Board debacle. Known members of Read Freely Alabama stated to the Commission to “clean up the mess they made,” as one commenter stated. While other commenters thanked their choices in appointees of the board for protecting Prattville children.
