It was nothing but smiles when the counseling department of Coosada Elementary School hosted their annual career fair, on March 14th. The goal was for the elementary students to know that there’s a wide range of careers waiting for them in the future.

The career fair serves as an opportunity for the students to explore different careers up close and personal. Career fair participants, vendors and parent volunteers all worked together to make this event a reality.

“Career day is a special time even for our little ones to see what options there are for them when they grow up,” Counselor Ashley Winchester said.

Parent participants were asked to prepare a display and to speak to groups of students in grades pre-kindergarten through second grade about their career and what they do.

“Not everyone wants to go to college and our students need to know now that the hard work that they are doing every day is helping them reach any goal that they set for themselves,” Counselor Daphne McClendon said.

Career booths and presentations included Josh Johnson with WSFA, firefighters, police officers, welders, construction workers, military soldiers, electricians/lineman, teachers, nurses, social workers, business owners, state troopers, paramedics, helicopter pilots and even the FBI was represented at the career fair last Thursday.

“Career fair also gives us an important opportunity to tap into our community resources and parents as well in supporting our students and programs. Thank you to the community for making our career week a success this year,” McClendon said.

Volunteers are always needed, to volunteer next year please contact Coosada Elementary School counselors Daphne McClendon or Ashley Winchester by phone at 334-285-0273 or via email at daphne.mcclendon@elmoreco.com or ashley.winchester@elmoreco.com.
