The Alabama Department of Corrections notified Central Alabama CrimeStoppers and advised they continue to seek the whereabouts of a fugitive wanted for escape.

The Alabama Department of Corrections is requesting public assistance in locating fugitive  Ricky Lavon Lay, 39, who is described as a white male, 5’10” in height, and weighs approximately 175 lbs. Lay has multiple tattoos.

Lay was serving a 16-year prison sentence for burglary at the Mobile Community Based Facility and Community Work Center located at 2423 North Beltline Highway in Mobile, AL. Lay escaped from the Steiner Shipyard where he was currently assigned to work. Lay left the job site without approval. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, and work boots on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at approximately 3:30 pm.

Investigators say Lay has ties to Mississippi and Alabama and has been known to frequent both states.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads law enforcement to the current location of Lay and leads to his capture.
