The Autauga County commission held their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night where all items on the agenda were approved. While the items on the agenda ranged from the county jail, Autauga County Emergency Management Agency, EMA, to the Autauga County Master Gardeners Association.

The Autauga County Commission approved hiring Amber Huett as the EMA assistant to replace the vacant position formerly held by Kristen Morgan. Morgan was promoted to Deputy Director last December, where the assistant position has been open since her promotion.

Huett’s position as EMA assistant is effective as of February 7th, 2024.

County Commission also went on to approve a onetime donation of $1,000 to the Autauga County Master Gardeners Association for their statewide conference they will be hosting in 2025. The conference will be held April 3-5, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Prattville.

The Master Gardeners Association in Autauga County donated all that was grown in their demonstration garden to the Autauga County Interfaith Care Center in 2023 which totaled over 1600 lbs. of fresh produce.

“This donation will help sponsor our conference in April of 2025, any of the expenses that we may have with hosting the conference. I hate to say profits, we don’t do the conference or anything for profit, but some of that money will go towards the transformation garden in Auburn, and that is a huge project there. We continue to work the beds in the demonstration garden so we can learn newer ways and do companion planting to raise more produce,” President of the Autauga County Master Gardeners Association Sondra Henley said.

Among the other items that were approved Tuesday night, was the bid for three pursuit vehicles for the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office. Two of which would be Dodge Chargers and one Dodge Durango. These vehicles would be paid for with discretionary funds.

The Commission also approved hired Teresa Ferell as a replacement as a full time Correctional Officer, and appointed Gloria Parker as a full time Correctional Officer for the Autauga County Jail.
