The Prattville City Council met Tuesday night with several ordinances and resolutions on the agenda. Paula G. Barlow was appointed as the assistant municipal election official for the special election of District 5 on the council. The special election will be held Feb. 13 to fill the spot left vacant by former Councilman Gornto’s resignation.

Barlow will serve as the assistant municipal election official and as the absentee ballot manager for the 2024 special election.

The council declared a vacancy in council district 5 on November 7th, 2023. Anyone in district 5 who is registered, qualified and wishes to vote in this special election must have had residence within District 5 for over 30 days to be eligible to vote.

Three people have qualified for the election, and qualifying is now closed. Those candidates are Michael Whaley, Mark Rhodes and Christopher Tarantino.

According to the Prattvilleal.gov website, polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on February 13th at 1357 S. Memorial Drive, Heritage Baptist Church. If necessary, a runoff election will be held on March 12th.

The absentee ballot applications, which can be obtained through Barlow, will be available after Jan 16th and can be obtained at the Prattville city clerk’s office at the Prattville City Hall, 101 West Main Street, during their regular office hours.
