The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted A Main Street Christmas in downtown Prattville Tuesday night from 5-7:30 p.m. where the focus was to shop local and support local businesses.

The participating shops in downtown Prattville stayed open late for the event and among the shopping opportunities, Mr. and Mrs. Claus was also downtown for a photo, carolers were present, ice skating and free carriage rides were also available.

“What we try to do is to get people to come downtown and shop locally, and then enjoy the Christmas festivities that are going on by the city of Prattville,” president of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, Patty VanderWal said.

There were also prizes available put on by the Chamber and in partnership with the participating merchants. VanderWal confirmed that a basket with items from all the merchants that participated in the event was available as well as $250 from the Chamber. All that was needed to enter was a receipt from one of the shops downtown.

“It’s wonderful because all the merchants are just excited to be a part of it and a lot of them have been doing it for years. We probably have about 20 merchants and most everybody down here is participating,” VanderWal said.
