ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS
Autauga and Elmore County law enforcement officers and school staff were on alert today, after threatening telephone calls were made to area schools.
Edgewood Academy in Elmore, and Autaugaville School in Autauga, were both impacted by threats made to the schools via phone calls. Law enforcement was notified in both local cases, and all students are safe.
Both incidents locally are being taken seriously and are under investigation. However, these were only two reports of multiple reports across the state, similar in nature, that occurred today.
We talked to several law enforcement officials today, and all said they are taking any threat seriously. However, they acknowledged this could be what is known as “spoofing” phone calls. It is possible to call multiple phones and change the incoming phone number.
Even so, law enforcement said it is more than likely that investigators will be able to track down those involved, and the charges could be very serious. If one person is responsible for multiple calls, the charges could stack up quickly.
These cases remain under investigation, and we will share more information as it becomes available.
If you have any information about these calls made today, or any other crime, please get in touch with your local law enforcement. If you want to stay anonymous, you can contact Central Alabama CrimeStoppers.
