The Autauga County Schools will be changing how they do the registration and withdrawal process for the 2024-2025 school year, Superintendent Lyman Woodfin confirms.

The process will be moving to an online base where enrollment, registration or withdrawal will be made online through PowerSchool, in one central location. However the schools will still be a hub for families to go to for further information regarding registration and other concerns.

PowerSchool is a cloud-based software for K-12 education that houses student resources, and facilitates communication among parents, teachers, administrators as well as students all in one place.

Rebecca Thomas, the Autauga County School Communications Coordinator, confirmed that families will be accommodated regardless of device or internet accessibility in the home. However the district is still working out the details but all decisions and kinks in the new process should be final by the beginning of next year.

The current plan is to have registration stations in a centralized location, as well as online. But the details are still being discussed, Thomas stated.

“For something as big as enrollment and withdrawals we need to, in my opinion, make sure we can streamline that, and that’s the thinking behind it,” Woodfin said. “We’re going to streamline it where families have one location to enroll or formally withdraw their students from our system. This will help make sure we are all being consistent on our enrolment policy and our verification policy,” Woodfin said.

Woodfin went on to praise the front office staff throughout the district for their ability to take on multiple roles within the office with their office duties. “Our offices are awesome and they do a great job across the district but it’s just too much,” Woodfin said.

This new process will go into effect for the 2024 school year, where Autauga county schools have even hired two additional positions to help this process through. Woodfin confirmed that the tentative goal for the district is to start the renewal of beginning of year paperwork that usually is completed by parents the first few days of school, between February and April.

“We know change is going to be tough, we’re talking about changing something that we’ve never done here, we’ve always done it by paper. But we are doing this with the best of intentions. We are expecting the first year to be a little tough, and it will get better once our people learn it,” Woodfin said.

Parents should be on the lookout for final announcements on the Autauga County Schools website regarding how the registration process for the 2024 school year will be operating after the holiday season. But be patient with us, we’re trying to look at things a little differently and we’re trying to make things better,” Woodfin said.
