The Prattville Lions’ Flag Football team continues to make history in their first season competing as a team in the Alabama High School Athletic Association. On Monday, the Lions traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on the undefeated Tuscaloosa County Wildcats in the Class 6A-7A Quarterfinals. Prattville left with a 19-13 victory, and a spot in the Class 6A-7A semifinals as one of the last four teams remaining in the sport.

Hartley Mccay had a huge impact for the Lions, rushing for 43 yards and a touchdown, returning a punt 62-yards for a touchdown, and intercepting a pass on defense. It was one of three interceptions for the night from the Prattville defense. London Williams and Laniya Page also had an interception. Page returned hers for a touchdown.

Defensively, Anna Bone and Eriana Benson also had a sack for the Lions. Benson added two tackles for a loss.

With the win, the Lions record improves to 14-5 in their inaugural season. More importantly, the Lions will host the Class 6A-7A semifinals and play at Marbury High School Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. with a chance to clinch a spot in the state championship game.  The Lions will take on the winner of Central-Phenix City and Daphne which will be played on Wednesday. Two of Prattville’s five losses this season have come against Central-Phenix City, so the Lions will know the quality of their opponent no matter which team they have to face.

Prattville Head Coach Brian Pittman continues to be impressed with his team.

“I’m very proud of this group of ladies. They have put a lot of time and hard work into being the best team they could be and to have a chance to watch them play for a spot in the state championship game is unreal. It’s time for the Prattville community to stand up and come out and support these young ladies. They deserve it.”

Good luck to the Lions next week as they seek a spot in the Class 6A-7A flag football state championship game!
