Special to the EAN

MILLBROOK, ALA. – Make plans to attend Sunday, October 1 for the 49th Annual Garner Family Reunion at the Millbrook Memorial Center. The center is located off Grandview Road near the Millbrook Park, next to the Millbrook Civic Center. Family members are encouraged to bring old pictures and photos from past reunions and other historic relics to enjoy.

The Garner Family Reunion, held traditionally each first Sunday in October, is one of the oldest consecutive family gatherings in Elmore County dating back to 1975. Many relatives travel from throughout Alabama, the Southeast and other surrounding areas to attend.

Relatives and descendants of Willie and Mattie Ross Garner of Beat 14 in Deatsville, and George and Love Brown Garner of the Holtville area, are encouraged to attend this special gathering each October. Original settlers, Vincent and Eliza Sallas Garner came to the Holtville-Wetumpka area in 1854.

This year’s Garner Family Reunion will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m. and conclude around 3:30 p.m. at the Memorial Center in Millbrook. Lunch will be served at approximately 12:30 p.m. with a short business meeting and special recognitions to precede the luncheon. Cups, plates, utensils, and ice are furnished. Please bring your favorite covered dish or two for lunch. And bring enough drinks to share.
