ALEX CITY POST – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, has claimed the life of an Alexander City woman. Savannah Y. Gilbert, 22, was fatally injured when the 2023 Hyundai Elantra she was driving collided head-on with the 2010 Mercedes-Benz driven by Gary T. Ledwell, 69, of Grapeland, Texas. Gilbert was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gary T. Ledwell and Nancy C. Ledwell, 72, also of Grapeland, Texas, a passenger in the Mercedes, were both transported to Russell Medical Center in Alexander City for treatment. The crash occurred on Alabama 9 near the 151 mile marker, approximately 6 miles west of Alexander City, in Coosa County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
