This week, the American Heritage Girls and Trail Life USA, TROOP AL-0125, held their annual informational meeting at Millbrook Presbyterian Church, their charter organization establishment. At the meeting, the parents learned more about both troop organizations.

The girls also practiced paper weaving. They learned each Troop Member brings unique qualities, abilities and personality that add beauty when woven together. AHG is looking forward to a year of faith, service and fun under the 2023- 2024 Program Year Theme— WOVEN.

The girls had a photo op with AHG’s sheep from the WOVEN logo, aptly named “EWE-nique.”

Stephen Watson, who was recently hired by Millbrook Presbyterian to minister to young families, led the opening prayer. McWane on the Move took the stage to explore Superhero Science. The demonstrations were a huge hit for the children and their parents. Science and Technology is just one of the many focuses of both AHG and TL. The troops have a great program year planned and are open for youth to join.

“I have spent the last 25 years volunteering,” said AHG Troop Coordinator Susan Waldrop.

She continued, “At first with my own daughters and now both of my daughters have their own children in AHG and TL. I enjoy watching the troop members grow in their faith, learn a new skill, serve others and develop leadership skills though the program. As church-based and Christ-Centered programs, they provide adults the opportunity to mentor and disciple the next generation. I can’t wait until my great-grandchildren have the opportunity to join a troop.”

Participation in AHG and TL is open to all youth from ages five through 18. The AHG mission statement is “Building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country.” TL’s mission is “to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others and experience outdoor adventure.”

The next troop meeting will be held Tuesday, August 29th at 6:30 p.m. for anyone who would like to attend and learn more about the program.

Millbrook Presbyterian Church is located at 3480 Main Street.
