Deatsville Woman arrested for 26 Counts of Theft by Millbrook PD

ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

On Monday, July 3, 2023, Millbrook police officers responded to Walmart with regard to a theft in progress. Upon arrival, Walmart loss prevention personnel identified the alleged offender, Vickie Mullins, 60, of Deatsville as having committed a theft inside of the business, as well as being wanted on multiple warrants. Those warrants were obtained earlier that day relating to other thefts that had been committed previously by the alleged offender beginning in April of 2023. Mullins was taken into custody and transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where she was placed under arrest, being charged with 26 counts of Theft of Property 4th Degree. Mullins was processed and transported to the Elmore County Jail.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said, “I’m both amazed and saddened by the frequency that this scenario occurs at our local Walmart. At the risk of being repetitive, I’m going to say this again … consider it a public service announcement, if you will. Walmart is the largest retail business in our city. They do a tremendous amount of business daily and they maintain a tremendous amount of inventory, including groceries, electronics, hardware, lawn and garden equipment/supplies etc. In order to protect their property, they have a state of the art surveillance system in place and employ loss prevention personnel, who excel at their jobs. That said, just because you make it out of the business today without being apprehended, doesn’t mean that you won’t be caught committing the offense, later identified and have a warrant(s) signed against you, as evidenced in this case.”

Johnson added that the Police Department works closely with local businesses to identify, apprehend and prosecute individuals that commit property crimes.

“While I wouldn’t recommend that anyone commit a crime anywhere in the City of Millbrook, I’d think twice about committing any crime at Walmart. Chances are pretty good that you’ll be caught on camera, eventually you’ll be identified, apprehended and placed under arrest for your alleged offense. It’s difficult to defend yourself when the act is recorded by surveillance cameras. Theft of Property 4th Degree is a Class A Misdemeanor. Defendants adjudicated guilty may be sentenced up to one year in jail, as well as subject to fines up to $6,000.00. It’s simply not worth it.”

According to Elmore County Jail records, Mullins bonded out as of this morning.
