On Saturday the inaugural MayFest at Village Green Park in Millbrook, drew over an estimated 1,500 guests to this FREE spectacular event. It was sponsored by the City of Millbrook Cultural Arts and Special Events Department. The park was full with over 50 vendors that included handmade items, music, crafts, toys, fine arts, and delicious food.
A Maypole Dance was performed by Alabama Dance Theatre dancers. They engaged the children who wanted to participate to dance along beside them. There were also crafts and kid activities for the children. Gillespie’s Entertainment was the DJ that provided great music. The Art Mill in Millbrook was open during the event for anyone to come and tour artwork and the new facility.
Danae Morgan is the Cultural Arts and Special Events Director with the City of Millbrook and led the planning for the day.
“I left Millbrook’s inaugural MayFest arts, crafts, and food event feeling like it was a good, fun-filled day for our amazing community,” said Morgan.
She continued, “The weather was perfect, the vendors were varied and creative, the music was great, and the food was delicious! I especially want to thank our vendors for their hard work and support and the festival attendees for bringing such a fun vibe. I would also like to thank Mayor Al and Brenda Kelley for having the vision of an arts and crafts festival and trusting me to run with it. A special thanks to our city council, city departments, Millbrook Police Department, the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce, and many community volunteers for all of their hard work and support. We could not have pulled off such a successful event of this magnitude without them. Stay tuned for more fun community events coming soon.”
A special recognition and thank you was given to Sara Sanford and the Alabama Dance Theatre dancers for demonstrating and instructing everyone in the Maypole Dance.
“It was a beautiful day in our city. I think our new Cultural Arts Director, Danae Morgan, is doing a great job of organizing and bringing new events for our citizens to enjoy,” said Chief P.K. Johnson.
Johnson continued, “We had a good steady stream of folks coming through throughout the event. I think our first Mayfest was a success!”
